Tips for Keeping Up Online Appearances While Traveling

Summer is in full swing and hopefully, you’ve got one or two vacations on the books to look forward to! While you’re planning your trip to California, New York City, or maybe even Hawaii, you should also be planning for how you will handle your social media during your time away. Your online presence does not come to a screeching halt just because you’re out of the office. Consistency is key when it comes to social media, so while it’s healthy to take a break from your phone screen every once in a while, it’s important to make sure your bases are covered while you’re away.

It can be challenging to find a balance between enjoying yourself in the moment and getting caught up in posting photos to Instagram stories and updating your followers. Whether you’re taking your followers along on your trip or keeping business as usual while you’re away, here are a few tips to help you make the most of your social media while you’re on vacation.

Schedule ahead of time

You may be away for just a weekend or a full week, but whichever the case, it’s very helpful to plan ahead of time so there’s no last minute posting. Scheduling platforms like Buffer or Hootsuite will be your new best friend. If you plan on sharing details on your hotel, restaurants you’re going to, or attractions you’ll be partaking in, make a note of their social media handles before you leave. The more you prepare, the easier your life will be!

Post after the fact

Depending on where you are traveling to, you might not even have a signal or internet to allow you to post right away. If you see something beautiful or worth sharing, snap a picture and then put your phone away. Later when you’re relaxing at your hotel, relive the moment and share!

Check out the internet plan beforehand

If you’re traveling internationally, check and see if your hotel has an internet plan. You may be planning on unplugging for the entire trip, but it’s a good idea to have internet in case of emergencies.

Have a backup plan

Things change, especially in the social media world. Ask someone at your company to take over any social media responsibilities in case you are unreachable. You’ll be able to enjoy your trip worry free since you are fully prepared!

We encourage downtime, but it’s also worth noting that posting about your travels can open your brand up to new content and new audience opportunities (by adding different locations, hashtags, etc.).
